Art as a Revolution

Art as a Revolution: De Stijl

De Stijl movement emerged because of the situation the World War I left behind but the  De Stijl artists stepped away from all the chaos that was going on and focused on art as way of revolution. De Stijl emerged largely in response to the horrors of the war and the wish to remake society in its aftermath. Viewing art as a means of social and spiritual redemption, the members of De Stijl embraced a utopian vision of art and its transformative potential. The De Stijl movement is a great example of change in a brighter and nicer way to look at a revolution.

The quote used in the video was written by a Martin Gayford, an art and jazz critic, who reviews exhibitions regularly for Bloomberg News and contribute to many other publications.
